Session 1 – 6:15 PM
Parallel Pitfalls – Mark Smith
Microsoft included the Task Parallel Library and Parallel Framework (PFx) in .NET 4.0 to try to make it easier for developers to take advantage of modern multi core machines. At first glance it appears they succeeded, however, as with most things, it's not as easy as it looks! Come learn some of the problems and solutions on how to architect multi-threaded applications using .NET that will scale your algorithms as you throw new hardware at it!Speaker Bio:
Mark has been involved with software development for over 20 years, starting on mainframes (IBM VM/SP) and moving on to OS/2 and finally settling on Windows. He has extensive experience consulting for large companies, providing architectural and debugging help, performance tuning and design advice. He currently works with Microsoft Research on large dataset analysis, designing algorithms to take advantage of multiple cores to process and visualize large biological sequences. He also consults for Wintellect, helping their clients to design, debug and improve their .NET and Windows Store-based solutions, and teaches for DevelopMentor, where he is the author of their WPF, Blend, Surface and Windows 8 courses.
Session 2 – 7:40 PMBuilding Killer Single-Page Applications with Durandal – Brian Sullivan
Building Killer Single-Page Applications with Durandal – Brian Sullivan
JavaScript has come into its own as a language for building large, rich applications. Browser improvements have made it lightning-fast and a healthy ecosystem of libraries has risen up around it. Still, building Single-Page applications on your own can be a daunting task. That's where Durandal comes in. It leverages existing libraries like Knockout and RequireJS for data-binding and dependency management, and layers on additional features needed by real-world applications like compositional UI. Come see how Durandal can help you create web applications using state-of-the-art practices and tooling.
